Invited for the 6th year running, Leiela was once again on the runway for Myer Fashions on the Field Designer Awards at Emirates Melbourne Cup.
“The carnival is a fantastic way for designer’s and milliner’s to support each other,” says designer Lucy Laurita.
Model and Bully Zero Ambassador Cindy Carino returned for the day to showcase Leiela’s outstanding aqua Eden dress, complete with handheld birdcage, Swarovski crystal accessories and flower garden millinery. Cindy wore gorgeous Andrea Agosta designer jewellery accessories, including crystal ear-cuffs and the Liberty necklace, inspired by Andrea’s recent trip to New York and NYFW.
Engaging with the media and spending the morning taking snaps, Cindy’s photos were set against a backdrop of rose-gardens and snaps with the racehorses. Millinery, designed by Melissa Richards, matched the spring Cup Carnival theme and ensured Cindy gained plenty of attention!
“My inspiration was imagining a secret garden in the country, full of birds and butterflies,” says Melissa.
Standing out from the crowd in the floral headpiece, there was even a little dove nestled in to add to finishing touches.
Leiela’s Eden dress was embellished with aqua shoulder feather’s and mint paloma sequin rope belt, and completed by Leiela’s own designer birdcage handbag.
Making her way backstage to get ready for the judges, Cindy joined the other models and genuinely enjoyed the backstage camaraderie.
“Everyone was looking amazing, the designs were amazing and it was a lot of fun meeting the other girls,” says Cindy.
When it came time to front the judges, audience and photographers, our number 68 shone, receiving plenty of ‘wows’ and ‘aahs’ from the crowd.
Afterwards, the champagne was flowing back at the Myer marquee, as guests were treated to delicious catering by Peter Rowland Catering and a high fashion atmosphere.
What a day! It was fabulous to be part of such a day full of incredible creativity and fun. Watching the race that stops the nation and witnessing a record making win by jockey Michelle Payne capped off an incredible Melbourne Cup.
We were thrilled to see our friends stop by to say hi, and take a picture with Leiela. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
“I loved the fashions this year, as there was very much a return to true races themes and classic styles, but with a modern twist,” says Melissa.
“Honoured to be invited to participate in such a prestigious event that acknowledges and showcases the amazing creativity of our local fashion industry,” says Lucy. “It is vital that we support and nurture our diverse array of designers and milliners. I love this quote recently shared by Julian Lennon:
“When you buy something from an artist you’re buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing, you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul… a small piece of someone else’s life.” ”
