Leiela loves all things fashion and stage. Take a step into the world of design with behind-the-scenes fashion film Jean Paul Gaultier at Work. Jean Paul adores the expression of fashion to this day, and
was inspired from an early age to make and create garments. In fact, the first ever teddy bear he received as a child acted as style muse, and he created pieces specially to fit. Later, upon getting into fashion at a professional level, he created garments from anything he could get his hands onto, making jewelry from tin cans and computer pieces. He generated ideas from the beautiful things that caught his eye, and the film documents the amazing creativity and ingenuity behind his early work.
Jean Paul was also a big fan of up-cycling. He would take pre-existing garments, alter and combine fabrics to create something completely new, and he drew inspiration from the social forces of the 70’s
& 80’s. He loved the theatre and stage production.
Madonna’s famous pink cone corset worn on the Blonde Ambition tour was created by inspiration that originally came from the New York theatre. Jean Paul wanted to share fashion with the world – whilst adding his own imagination and elaboration of to the mix!
Jean Paul Gaultier at Work is on at ACMI until 13th September.
Leiela loves the stage just as much as Jean Paul Gaultier, and has dressed many stars for the theatre, stage production and red carpet appearances. Melbourne is home to some world-class theatre, and Leiela is always proud to play a part.
